What is a smoothie?

A healthy drink made from blended fruit.  It tastes great and is so easy to prepare.  All you need is a blender, liquidiser, food processor or hand blender.  You can use fresh, tinned or frozen fruit.  Make to suit your own taste using your favourite fruits. 

Here are some ideas (taken from the nhs5aday website):

Strawberries, 1 ripe banana, blend into a paste.  Add juice of one orange and some ice.  Pour into glass and serve with bits of strawberry.

 

Half a fresh pineapple (or 1 small one or 1 large tin of pineapple in juice).  Add 1 ripe banana and some coconut milk.  Blend until smooth.  Garnish with wedge of pineapple. 

 

1 large banana, one handful of strawberries or raspberries (fresh, frozen or tinned). Large glass of apple juice.  Try freezing banana beforehand.

Two handfuls of blueberries, fresh frozen or tinned.  2 handfuls of blackcurrants.  5-6 ice cubes and 1 tsp honey.  Blend together until smooth.

3 or 4 ripe peaches, skinned and stoned (or 1 tin of peaches in fruit juice).  add juice of 1 lemon, 1 glass of orange juice and a small tin of pineapple chunks.  Blend together.

1 kiwi peeled and sliced.  1 cup of frozen raspberries, 2 cups of frozen blackberries, half a glass apple juice and 1 banana.  Blend together.
