New Initiatives - Bertie Bank

On 5th March 2009 members of Healthy Schools Task Force and gifted and talented textile students enjoyed a creative and fun session designing outfits from old textiles. Pippa came in from Berty Bank to show us how easy it is to design your own wardrobe and to recycle textiles at the same time.

I was amazed at the wonderful creations achieved in just fifty minutes! It was great fun, relaxing and even quite therapeutic. We were very pleased that Mrs Folkes, a parent from Healthy Schools Task. Force was able to be there too to encourage the students and enjoy the event. Some of the videos that students made are shown below:

This is part of our new Healthy Schools Recycling initiative. We now have a Recycling bank in the school playground for all unwanted textiles and shoes. We will receive £50 for every bank we fill. All the items are either sent overseas to provide essential clothing for those in developing countries or recycled for industry. Please help by bringing in your old textiles and shoes.

By the way, we are always looking for new parents to join the Task Force. If you are interested in getting involved in making Davenant a Healthy school and helping our Task Force, please contact Mrs Lamb at the school who will be delighted to give you further information.
