The Governing Body at Davenant are responsible for the running of the Academy.
STATEMENT FROM CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
Davenant Foundation School is a great school and our ethos is fundamental to all aspects of school life and to the strategic direction of the school. In 2018 governors, along with students, staff, and parents, revisited our purpose and values – seeking to articulate clearly our vision and ethos. We reaffirmed our vison to reflect the love of God in all aspects of our community by nurturing mind, body and spirit and loudly proclaimed our values: Compassionate, Determined, Open-Minded, Respectful and Inclusive.
Our responsibility as governors is critical to the success of this vision and we are committed to living the values in all we do.
In our work on the Governing Body we have three core roles:
To be strategic - not operational. Understanding and addressing what is best for the school in the context of current Government policy. Not just for this academic year but for the future.
To act as a critical friend in the development of the school. Getting to know our school and asking the questions that should be asked.
To be accountable. Accountable to pupils and parents in particular, but also to the whole school community including our school staff and the wider local community.
Yet again, we face a challenging year as, like schools across the country, we continue to deal with considerable financial challenge and curriculum reform. We need to build upon our achievements to date and take the school forward into the years ahead. In 2018, we had the best set of examinations results we have experienced to date - but we cannot be complacent; we must still do better for all of the young people who grow in our school and for the staff who charged with their development. We need to continue to invest in teaching and learning, we must plan for the long-term redevelopment of our school building and we must secure the wide range of educational and extra-curricular opportunities that our students enjoy. We also need to develop, motivate and empower a talented and professional staff team and maintain the support of a highly committed team of governors. Together we need to shape the direction of travel, have the vision to see future potential and the drive to make it happen.
As a governing body, we will continue to work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure that we have in place a clear strategic direction for the development of the school and a strong framework of accountability; through robust scrutiny, challenge and support.
As governors, we are ambitious for all of our school students, seeking to develop them fully as individuals and to prepare them for their role in a changing world. We must support and challenge the senior leadership team to ensure excellence in teaching and learning, to create a safe and supportive learning environment and to foster a school community that promotes pride, equality and achievement.
As we continue to demonstrate our vision and ethos within the school and wider community, we will maintain our reputation as a high-achieving and caring Christian school, building partnerships for improvement within the school, the local community and the wider world. Our young people will continue to receive the highest standards of educational excellence and will continue to give of their best, to achieve and to progress.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to working with you as parents, carers and stakeholders, to make this a happy and successful school through the next academic year and beyond.
