The Governing Body at Davenant are responsible for the running of the Academy.
STATEMENT FROM CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
Davenant Foundation School is a great school, with a compelling mission, to nurture the mind, body and spirit of our students and to reflect the love of God in all aspects of our community. Our responsibility as governors is critical to the success of this mission.
In our work on the governing body we have three core roles:
To be strategic - not operational. Understanding and addressing what is best for the school in the context of current Government Policy. Not just for this academic year but for the future.
To act as a critical friend in the development of the school. Getting to know our school and asking the questions that should be asked.
To be accountable. Accountable to pupils and parents in particular, but also to the whole school community including our school staff and the wider local community.
We face challenging times as the school continues to manage considerable change, financial challenge and curriculum reform. We need to build upon our achievements to date and take the school forward into the years ahead. We need to further develop teaching and learning, we must plan for the long-term redevelopment of our school building and we must secure the wide range of educational and extra-curricular opportunities that our students enjoy. We also need to develop, motivate and empower a talented and professional staff team and maintain the support of a highly committed team of governors. Together we need to shape the direction of travel and have the vision to see future potential and the drive to make it happen.
As a governing body, we will continue to work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure that we have in place a clear strategic direction for the development of the school and a strong framework of accountability; through robust scrutiny, challenge and support.
As governors, we are ambitious for all of our school students, seeking to develop them fully as individuals and to prepare them for their role in a changing world. We must support and challenge the senior leadership team to ensure excellence in teaching and learning, to create a safe and supportive learning environment and to foster a school community that promotes pride, equality and achievement.
Our ethos is fundamental to all aspects of school life and to the strategic direction of the school. As we continue to clearly articulate our vision and ethos within the school and wider community, we will maintain our reputation as a high-achieving and caring Christian school, building partnerships for improvement within the school, the local community and the wider world. Our young people will continue to receive the highest standards of educational excellence and will continue to give of their best, to achieve and to progress.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to working with you as parents and stakeholders, to make this a happy and successful school. We are a school community living out our values in practice - determined, open-minded, respectful, inclusive and compassionate.
