Essex Book Awards

Davenant Library is taking part in these awards for the fourth year running. Students from years 7-9 read 6 books chosen by the Essex Schools Library Service and vote for their favourite. The winning book is decided by all the schools taking part and will be announced later this year.

This years titles are Chalkline by Jane Mitchell, DeathWatch by Nicola Morgan, Soul Trade by E.E. Richardson, The Ant Colony by Jenny Valentine, The Battle for Gullywith by Susan Hill and The Sandfather by Linda Newbery.

One of the schools taking part arranged for the author Linda Newbery to visit their school to talk to the students about her book and being a published author. Eight students from Davenant travelled in order to take part in this event. Linda presented a slide show showing how she had developed her ideas for the story; she answered students’ questions and signed copies of her books.
